Summer is just about here and your body is fully healed from your liposuction procedure last winter. This is an exciting time for many of our liposuction patients. They plan out their procedure perfectly so they can enjoy the results of their surgery without having to worry about bruising, swelling or any recovery time while the sun is out, but they haven’t quite had the opportunity to show off their new curves in a sexy summer outfit or new bathing suit—until now.

Summer can also be a tricky time for men and women who have just had liposuction. With all the sugary summer drinks and deep-fried, greasy foods floating around the table and at BBQs, it can be easy to fall back into old habits. After working so hard to achieve your ideal body, we want you to be able to enjoy your results for years to come. The team at Farrell Plastic Surgery & Laser Center have come up with some tips to help you enjoy your new body and enjoy all the things you love about summer.

Here are our four healthy habits to help you maintain the results of your liposuction procedure (and maybe even carve out those six-pack abs!):

Tip #1: Make the most of a sunny day and take your bike.

One of the best things about summertime in Mechanicsburg is the sunshine. If you’re running out for coffee or have a relatively short commute to work, why not leave the car keys at home and take your bike instead? Not only is biking a great form of exercise, but going for a ride out in the sunshine can be an extremely enjoyable and relaxing experience. Summer biking can also be a fun activity to do in your free time or with the whole family. The sun will feel great on your skin and, best of all, you can avoid traffic and those rising gas prices!

Tip #2: Stay hydrated and carry around a bottle of water.

Did you know drinking water is not only good to keep you hydrated, but can also help you manage or even lose weight? Studies show that drinking a glass of water with every meal helps you to feel fuller faster, therefore making you less likely to overeat or gain weight. In fact, many times when you feel hungry, your body may actually just be thirsty. Also, drinking water can help you maintain healthy-looking skin and a youthful complexion.

Tip #3: Avoid sugary drinks and don’t be fooled by “diet” soda.

Sugary beverages are one of the easiest ways to overconsume on calories—and not the good kinds of calories either. That daily Frappuccino, can of soda, or sugary cocktail can be your body’s worst enemy if you’re not careful. They can be enjoyed in moderation, but when you pop open can after can or bottle after bottle, the calories, sugar, and fat all add up quickly. Even the beverages that brand themselves as healthier options are packed with sugar or insane amounts of sodium. Studies have found that men and women who drink diet soda actually end up gaining more belly fat than those who don’t. This doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy your favorite summer beverages, but be mindful, avoid over-consumption, and don’t let them trick you with diet or ‘0 calorie’ soda.

Tip #4: Have fun.

Summer is all about having fun and enjoying time with the people you love. So turn off Netflix, shut off the computers, and head outside for some healthy summer fun. Embrace your inner child and participate in a war of water balloons and Super Soakers with your kids. Go for a swim at the pool or take a trip to the beach and enjoy the ocean breeze. Take a hike on one of Pennsylvania’s gorgeous trails. There are many things you can do this summer that don’t include staring at a screen. Take advantage of this time! You’ll have fun and your body will thank you for it.
